Gorgeous Hair, Glowing Bride: Prepping Your Hair for Your Wedding Day

Written by Caroline Rountree, 904 Balayage

Your wedding day is undoubtedly one of the most magical moments in your life, and every detail matters – especially your hair. As a hairstylist with a heart full of excitement for brides-to-be, I'm here to guide you through the essential steps to ensure your hair is as stunning as you are on your special day.

Start Early, Plan Wisely

Just like a beautiful garden needs time to bloom, your hair needs a bit of nurturing to reach its full potential. Begin your hair care journey well in advance of the big day. Consult with your hairstylist months ahead to discuss your ideas, understand your hair type, and create a comprehensive plan that aligns seamlessly with your vision. Sometimes hair colors cannot be achieved in one appointment. I personally start working toward that wedding day hair six months in advance.

Be Mindful of Color

If coloring your hair is part of your pre-wedding plans, make sure to do so ahead of the wedding day. This ensures there's time for any adjustments and that your hair has a chance to settle into its new shade, resulting in a natural and cohesive look on your big day. I always recommend to my brides to do that last color refresh one to two weeks before the big day!

All About Timing

When planning your hair appointment for the big day, ensure it aligns with your schedule. Aim to have your hair styled after your makeup application, avoiding any smudging mishaps and allowing both your hair and makeup to shine simultaneously.

PRO TIP: Bring some makeup remover wipes for any makeup on your hairline. I also love to use a powder that matches your root color to fill in the hairline if needed.

Practice Makes Perfect

A hairstyle that truly complements your wedding look deserves a bit of rehearsal. Schedule a trial run with your hairstylist to experiment with different styles and find the one that harmonizes with your face shape, dress, and overall theme. This trial ensures that you feel comfortable and confident in your chosen style, allowing you to anticipate how your hair will look and feel on the day itself.

Wash the Day Before

Cleanse your hair the day before your wedding, refraining from washing it on the actual day. This provides the ideal texture for styling, as slightly dirty hair tends to hold styles better and possesses more grip and volume.

Gather the Essentials

On the day of your wedding, have a small emergency kit on hand. Include essentials like bobby pins, hairspray, a small comb, and any other products recommended by your hairstylist for quick touch-ups. This ensures that your hair stays flawless throughout the event, no matter the weather or dancing intensity.

Embrace the Natural You

While it's tempting to explore new and elaborate styles, remember that your wedding day is a celebration of you. Choose a hairstyle that reflects your personality and makes you feel comfortable and confident. Subtle enhancements can beautifully amplify your natural beauty without altering your essence. Don't forget yourself while looking at all the gorgeous Pinterest pins. It is about enhancing YOU, not looking like someone else.

Breathe and Enjoy

Amid the whirlwind of excitement, take a deep breath and savor every moment of your day. Your hairstyle is just one brushstroke on the canvas of your radiant presence. Let the love, the joy, and the journey to becoming a happily married couple be your focus, and let your hair enhance that glow.

Remember, your wedding day is your time to shine, and your hair plays a significant role in that radiance. By following these steps and collaborating with a skilled hairstylist, you'll gracefully walk down the aisle with the perfect hair that compliments your happiness and beauty. Wishing you a day filled with love, laughter, and beautiful hair.
